1. Who we are

StoryMe Bedtime ("StoryMe", "we", "our", or "us") is a mobile application that generates personalized bedtime stories for children using artificial intelligence. The app is available on the Apple App Store.

2. What data we collect

StoryMe collects and stores the minimum information needed to deliver personalized stories.

Stored locally on your device only:

• Child profile information you enter: first name, age, interests, and a chosen theme
• Generated story text and titles
• App preferences (text size, voice selection, favorites)
• An anonymous device identifier generated at first launch (a random string — not linked to your Apple ID, name, or email)
• Premium subscription status (whether you have upgraded)

Sent to our server when you generate a story:

• Your child's first name (e.g. "Emma")
• Your child's age (e.g. "5")
• The day summary you type (e.g. "she went to the park and saw a duck")
• Your selected lesson, tone, and story options
• Your anonymous device identifier (used only to enforce the free usage limit)

What we do NOT collect:

• No email addresses or account credentials
• No last names, addresses, or contact information
• No location data, GPS, or IP-based location tracking
• No advertising identifiers (IDFA)
• No browsing history or cross-app tracking
• No payment information (handled entirely by Apple)
• No photographs (camera permission is optional and only used if you choose to take a photo)

3. How we use your information

We use the information you provide for one purpose only: to generate a personalized bedtime story for your child.

• Story prompts (name, age, day summary, tone) are sent to our secure server, which forwards them to OpenAI's API to generate the story text and narration audio.
• The anonymous device ID is used server-side only to count how many stories a free user has generated in the current week, and is discarded from memory when the server restarts.
• We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose other than generating your story.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for marketing purposes.

4. Data retention

On your device: All story content and child profiles are stored only on your device using Apple's local storage (AsyncStorage). This data persists until you delete it or uninstall the app. We have no access to it.

On our servers: Story prompts sent to our server are not logged or stored after the story response is delivered. Our server processes the request in memory and immediately discards all input data. We retain no database of user stories or prompts.

Data deletion: To delete all your data, simply uninstall the app. Because we do not store your data on our servers, there is nothing further to delete. If you believe any data was retained in error, contact us at support@storyme.app and we will investigate and confirm within 30 days.

5. Children's privacy (COPPA compliance)

StoryMe is designed as a tool for parents and guardians, not for direct use by children. The app is operated by adults on behalf of their children.

• We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13.
• All profile creation, story generation, and account management is performed by a parent or guardian.
• Children's first names and ages entered by parents are used solely to personalize the story and are never stored on our servers.
• We do not display advertising to any users, including children.
• We do not share children's information with third parties.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, please contact us immediately at support@storyme.app. We will delete such information promptly.

6. Third-party services

StoryMe uses the following third-party services to deliver its features:

• OpenAI — Story text and narration audio are generated using OpenAI's GPT-4o and TTS (text-to-speech) APIs. Story prompts are transmitted to OpenAI's servers for processing. OpenAI's use of this data is governed by the OpenAI Privacy Policy. OpenAI does not use API input data to train its models by default.
• Render — Our API server is hosted on Render.com. Render may retain standard server access logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) for security and infrastructure purposes. See Render's Privacy Policy.
• Apple App Store — Subscription purchases and payments are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store payment card information. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or social media tracking pixels.

7. Data security

All communication between the app and our server uses HTTPS/TLS encryption. We do not store a database of user stories or prompts. Our server infrastructure is hosted on Render.com, which maintains industry-standard security practices.

Because we store minimal data and retain nothing server-side after story delivery, the risk surface for a data breach affecting your family's information is extremely low.

8. In-app purchases

Premium subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store and processed entirely by Apple. We do not collect, see, or store your payment method, billing address, or Apple ID credentials. To manage or cancel your subscription, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone.

9. Your rights and data deletion requests

Since virtually all data is stored on your device and not on our servers, you are in full control of your data at all times. To exercise your rights:

• Access or delete your data: Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data. No account deletion is required because we do not maintain user accounts.
• Request server-side deletion: Email support@storyme.app with the subject "Data Deletion Request." We will confirm within 30 days that no data tied to your device identifier is retained.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page occasionally.
